I have written the first of many tutorials on CS4 over at Scriptplayground. The focus of this tutorial is Pixel Bender, which allows you to create custom filters and use them during runtime.

Okay an announcement is not as cool as the product on your desk, but CS4 has officially been announced as of 12am EST on September 23rd. I will be posting information, tutorials and other stuff on CS4 in the coming weeks, but to start I wrote an article ( an overview ) on Fireworks CS4 for PhotoshopCafe, once the article is live I will link to it.

Also, in a more personal announcement from CS4, I am in the Flash About box! Well, my name is.

My lack of posting and generally being online has been due to a hardcore bit of writing for my new book. Actually not “my” new book because I am co-authoring this one with Charles Christiansen, an amazing Java developer! We have teamed up to write an in depth guide to Flex and Java development with sections devoted to complete application development.

Similar to my Flash and PHP Bible, I wanted to explain the basics, cover all the “what ifs” but not stop there.. I like to end with a few real world projects. In the Java and Flex Integration Bible you will learn how to develop a store front end in Flex that will be powered by a java application on the server. That is only one of the complete applications covered in this book.

The street date is early spring 2009, but I will be sure to post more information as it is available.

This is not the only project I am working on, but is the only one I can talk about in any detail. Let me simply say the next few months will be interesting for designers, readers of Scriptplayground and Flash developers.

I have been getting requests for work I have done in the past, so I took some time while in the air to Vegas and updated my portfolio.

Back from PhotoshopWorld and it was a great time. I got to hang out with some great people, learn various lighting and studio techniques from Eddie Tapp and the Canon guys and see new products. Adobe announced the announcement of Creative Suite 4 to be held on September 23rd, make sure you register for that, it looks HUGE.

This PhotoshopWorld was also very interesting for mkeefeDESIGN. We had the chance to develop a video kiosk for PhotoshopCafe.

This kiosk was built using the Adobe AIR runtime and Adobe Flash, you can read more about the project on my portfolio.

While in Vegas I also took some time to photograph some things and once I get a moment I will post those to flickr. For now, I intend to catch up on work and get some much needed sleep.
