I am happy to FINALLY announce my first iPhone application, Happy Peg, now available on the iTunes App Store!

Happy Peg is based on the classic “peg game” that you likely played/saw in a restaurant. Its a simple concept that will keep you hooked for hours.

This version takes that classic game and adds the ability to resume a game if you get a call or decide to close the app. It also gives the ability to assist you while you play using simple hints as a guide to possible moves. You can even try to beat your best time completing the game using the in-game timer. All of the custom options (timers and hints) can be enabled/disabled in the Settings.

The application was built using Flash CS5 and the iPhone packager. I am not able to speak about specifics at this time but I can say it makes creating apps a much simpler process compared to Objective-C. For more information and tutorials on creating iPhone apps in Flash please follow Scriptplayground on Twitter. Once I am able to post code and tutorials I will have a complete guide with steps to create Happy Peg and learn the techniques to use in your own apps.

Flash on Tap in 2 days!!

That’s right, Flash on Tap is only 2 days away. This is going to be an intense conference whether you like beer, Flash or beer and Flash. I have gotten the chance to see some of the content that will be presented here and its going to be amazing.

Along with the standard conference I have also registered for Keith Peters iPhone workshop, which will be the first time I will have worked with any form of iPhone development. I am excited to see what I learn, but more importantly what sort of ideas it kick starts. My reasons for learning iPhone development is purely for fun at the moment and I already have 4 app concepts running around in my mind and on paper.

So, if you are in town and going or just in town (Boston) let me know.

Note: Due to the beer, you must be 21 to register/attend.

Registration ends in a few days, so don’t wait. See you there!

Baby steps in iPhone development

Well, after seeing numerous blog posts, videos, sessions and conferences devoted to iPhone development it has peeked my interest. So today I installed Xcode on my new MacBook Pro, downloaded the SDK and have started sifting through the documentation.

I haven’t even open an Xcode project because I intend to gather the learning materials and learn it all properly, rather than diving in and getting overwhelmed. This is because Objective C is the “weirdest” language I have set out to program in, especially coming from ActionScript and Java-style languages.

I owe my initial interest to Keith Peters about a month ago as he started to write blog posts on Bit-101 while he was learning everything. Soon after I researched some things, read some articles and gathered a list of books I would need, such as the one shown to the right.

However, once that was completed I got thrown on a project for work and all free time was lost. Now I am starting to gain some of that back and hope to dive in next week.

No plans for commercial development, selling an app or any of that.. this is purely to learn something new, have some fun and most importantly, keep my mind active! Expect more on this topic soon, but fear not, I am still an ActionScript developer by “day”.

Putting a lock on the twitter timeline

Since I have gotten something like 30 spam requests and emails about things I have twittered (from random people), I have decided to follow the others and lock my timeline. It was also because my “tweets” appear in various searches/feeds.

In other twitter news, they upped the API call limit and just in time for things like “Twitterific (iTunes link)“, now available at the Apple App Store.. so now I can update you all on my random comments/thoughts while on the road.

If for some reason you have to hear what I’m talking about, please feel free to send a request.

Update: I also privatized my social network profiles for the same reason.

Apple unveiled iPhone 2 at WWDC earlier today. Despite many mockups, it does not have video conferencing or all the other wacky features people guessed about.

However, it does sport 3G (of course), GPS and a lower price tag, with the 8GB model for $199. The phone will be available on July 11th.

Will I buy one on July 11th? Not sure, will you?
